Pips Unlimited

Play Pips unlimited: place every domino so each region’s rule holds, with 4 dominoes on Easy, 7 on Medium, 10 on Hard, and a new board each time you press Next.

How to play Pips

  1. 1

Drag a domino from the tray onto two touching cells, or tap a domino and then tap the two cells. Tap a placed domino to turn it around.

  2. 2

Each outlined region has a rule in its corner: a number is the total of its pips, = means every pip matches, ≠ means no two match, and a less-than or greater-than sign sets a limit.

  3. 3

Use every domino and cover every cell. The timer stops when the last rule holds.

  4. 4

Press Next puzzle for a new board at the same level, or switch to Daily for the board everyone gets today.

Pips Unlimited questions

How do you play Pips?

Drag each domino from the tray onto two touching cells, or tap a domino and then the two cells, until every cell is covered. Each outlined region shows a rule in its corner: a number is the total of its pips, = means every pip is the same, ≠ means no two match, and a less-than or greater-than sign sets a limit. When every rule holds the puzzle is solved and the timer stops. If you are stuck, Hint puts one domino where it belongs.

Can I play Pips more than once a day, like an unlimited version?

Yes. Press Next puzzle and a new board is made in your browser straight away, at the same level. There is no daily limit and nothing to sign up for. If you want the one-board-a-day feel, switch to Daily mode.

Is this NYT Pips, or a different site?

Something else. The Dles is an independent site. We wrote this version ourselves and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by The New York Times, which publishes the original daily Pips.

What do =, ≠, > and < mean on the Pips regions?

On the original game, as NBC Bay Area and Tom’s Guide describe it, = means every domino half in the region shows the same number of pips, ≠ means no two halves may match, a plain number means the pips in the region add up to it, and a less-than or greater-than sign means the total must be below or above the number shown. This version uses the same region rules.

When did Pips come out?

The New York Times launched Pips on August 18, 2025, as reported by TechRadar and NBC Bay Area.

How many difficulty levels does Pips have, and can I play them all in one day?

The daily Pips comes in three levels, Easy, Medium and Hard, according to TechRadar and AOL. Here you can play all three as often as you like: Easy boards have 8 cells, Medium 14 and Hard 20. Pick a level in the toolbar and press Next puzzle for another board.

Can I tap to rotate a domino on my phone?

Yes. Tap a domino in the tray, then tap the two cells where it should go. Tap a placed domino to turn it around. To take one back, drag it off the board, or press Delete while the board is focused. Dragging works too, with a finger or a mouse.

Can I send a friend the exact same Pips board?

Yes. When you solve a board, Copy result gives you a short text with a link that ends in ?p= and the puzzle number. Anyone who opens the link gets the same board.
