Factle Unlimited

Play Factle Unlimited: one question, a list of answers and 5 slots, then put the real top 5 in order within 5 tries (6 on Easy). Questions come from World Bank and U.S. Census data, and a new one appears each time you press Next.

How to play Factle

  1. 1

Tap an answer to drop it in the next empty slot. Tap a slot to send its tile back, or drag a tile from one slot to another to swap them.

  2. 2

Fill all 5 slots and press Submit. A submit with an empty slot, or an order you already tried, shows a note and costs nothing.

  3. 3

A square with a lock means the right spot, and that tile stays put. A circle with two arrows means the tile is in the top five but in the wrong place. A diamond with a cross means it is not in the top five, so the tile goes back to the list and is crossed out.

  4. 4

Get all 5 right within 5 tries (6 on Easy). In either case, the real numbers, the year and the source appear at the end. Hint locks one rank for you, up to 3 times, and costs no try.

Factle Unlimited board after a win: five answers in the right slots on the ranking question, each marked with a lock

Factle tips

  • Start with the one you are surest about and put it in its slot. A square with a lock means the right spot, so the rest of your tries can go on the other 4 slots.
  • Use the circles. A circle says that tile belongs in the top five but not there, so move it and keep the others where they are rather than reshuffling everything.
  • Cross-check size against intuition. Rankings of people, area and money are often not in the order you expect, so a famous name can sit lower than a country you had written off. Hint locks one rank for you, up to 3 times, and costs no try.
  • You have 5 tries at the fewest, and a submit you already made costs nothing, so use every crossed-out diamond as a fact: that tile is out for good.

Factle Unlimited questions

How do you play Factle Unlimited?

Each question asks for a top 5, for example the five countries in Africa with the most people. Below it you get a list of answers (8 on Easy, 12 on Medium, 16 on Hard) and 5 numbered slots. Put the ones you think are in the top 5 into the slots in order and press Submit. Every tile in the slots gets a marker, the right ones lock, and you try again with the rest. There is no sign-up and no daily limit: press Next puzzle for a new question whenever you like.

How many guesses do I get, and what do the three tile markers mean?

You get 5 tries on Medium and Hard and 6 on Easy. After each submit, a square with a lock means the right spot (right spot) and the tile locks in place. A circle with two arrows means the tile is in the top 5 but in a different spot. A diamond with a cross means it is not in the top 5 at all, and the tile goes back to the list crossed out. The markers use shapes as well as colours, so they read the same without colour. An incomplete board or an order you already tried is not counted as a try.

Can I play more than one Factle a day?

Yes. Press Next puzzle and a new question appears at once, at the same level, as often as you like. Switch to Daily if you want the one question everybody gets today. Across the three levels there are 808 different topic and region combinations (124 on Easy, 211 on Medium and 473 on Hard), and Medium also shuffles which wrong answers are mixed in, so the same topic can come back with a different list.

Where do the rankings in your questions come from?

The country numbers are from the World Bank’s World Development Indicators, shared under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. The U.S. state numbers are from the U.S. Census Bureau, and continents follow Natural Earth’s map data. “Countries” means the 193 United Nations member states. Continent labels are a convention, so Russia counts as Europe and Turkey and Cyprus count as Asia. Every question shows its value, year and source at the end of the game. We only ask about a region when every country or state in it has a value, so a missing number can never hide a real top 5.

What is the difference between Easy, Medium and Hard?

Easy gives 8 answers and 6 tries, and only asks about everyday measures such as population, area, GDP and population density in big, familiar regions. Medium gives 12 answers and 5 tries, with wrong answers picked at random from the top 25. Hard gives 16 answers and 5 tries, and adds harder topics such as infant mortality, internet use, forest area and health spending, with the wrong answers packed close behind the real top 5.

Is this the original Factle from factle.app / Front Office Sports?

No. The Dles is an independent site. We wrote this version ourselves, with our own questions, drawings and markers, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the makers of the original game. Our questions are statistics about countries and U.S. states only.

Why does the same country keep showing up in my top 5?

Because some countries really do lead many lists: the biggest countries top population, area and economy rankings again and again, and small states top the “fewest” lists. Easy only asks about 124 topic and region combinations, so repeats come sooner there. Try Medium or Hard, or switch to a different region, and the lists change quickly.

Are the numbers up to date?

They are the latest full year available when the questions were built: 2024 for most World Bank measures, 2023 for land area, forest area and health spending, the July 2025 population estimate for U.S. states and 2026 for state land and water area. Agencies revise their figures, so a number can move a little later, and we only keep questions where the top six places are clearly apart. The year and source are shown under every answer at the end of the game.

How do I share my result without spoiling today's answer?

Press Copy on the result card. The text has the game and level, how many tries you used out of 5 (6 on Easy), your time and a link to the same question. It also has one row of symbols per try, with a square for the right spot, a circle for the wrong spot and a cross for not in the top 5. It never names a country or shows a number, so it does not spoil the answer.
