Colorfle Unlimited

Play Colorfle Unlimited: pick the colors, in order, that blend into the target. You get 6 tries on Medium (8 on Easy), and every row shows how close its blend is to the target.

How to play Colorfle

  1. 1

The target color on the left is a blend of three palette colors on Medium. The first color you pick takes 50%, the second 30%, the third 20%.

  2. 2

Tap colors to fill the row, then press Submit. A color can be used once in a row; tap it again, or press Undo, to take it back.

  3. 3

Under each color is a shape: a filled square is the right color in the right spot, a ring is a color in the mix but in the wrong spot, a diamond is not in the mix, and it fades on the palette.

  4. 4

Each row also shows the blended color and how close it is to the target. Match every color within six tries.

Colorfle tips

  • Start with a row of three very different colors. The shapes then tell you which of them are in the mix at all, and the colors that turn out not to be fade on the palette so you can ignore them.
  • Remember what the order does. The first spot takes the biggest share, so a color that looks like most of the target belongs first, and a ring means the color is right but should move.
  • Look at the blended swatch at the end of each row as well as the shapes. If it is lighter than the target, swap in a darker color; if it is too warm, try a cooler one.
  • Save Hint for the first spot. It opens the biggest share, which does the most to narrow the rest, and it stays locked in every later row.

Colorfle Unlimited questions

How do I play Colorfle Unlimited?

The target is a color blended from three colors on Medium (two on Easy, four on Hard), each taking a fixed share of the mix. You are shown the target and a palette of colors, each with its name under it. Tap colors in order to fill a row, one for each share, and press Submit. The game tells you, with a shape under every color, whether it is right, in the mix but in the wrong spot, or not in the mix at all, and it shows the color your row blends to and how close that is to the target. Get every color in its spot to win; run out of tries and the answer is shown. Press Next puzzle for a new target as often as you like.

How many guesses do I get, and what do Easy, Medium and Hard change?

Easy gives eight tries on a palette of 8 colors drawn from the 12 easiest to tell apart, with a blend of two colors at 60 / 40. Medium gives six tries, 12 of the 16 colors, and three colors at 50 / 30 / 20. Hard gives six tries, all 16 colors, and four colors at 40 / 30 / 20 / 10. Hint costs no try: it opens the biggest share you have not found yet and locks that color into place for every row after (1 on Easy, 2 on Medium, 3 on Hard).

What do the markers under each colour mean after a guess?

Each color in a submitted row gets one shape. A filled square with a tick means the right color in the right spot. A ring with two arrows means the color is in the mix but in the wrong spot. A diamond with a cross means it is not in the mix, and on the palette it fades, gets a line through it and is crossed out in its name, so you can skip it. The shapes carry the meaning on their own, so you never have to tell colors apart to read them, and screen readers hear the same words.

Does the order I pick the colours in matter?

Yes, a lot. The first color takes the biggest share of the blend and the last the smallest, so the same colors in a different order make a different target. On Medium the shares are 50 / 30 / 20: if the answer is sky, pink, cream, then pink, sky, cream has the right three colors with the first two swapped, shows two rings and one square, and blends to a color 89.5% close to the target. Use the squares to lock the spots you are sure of and move the rings.

What does the accuracy percentage mean?

After each guess the game blends your row in the same shares as the answer and compares that color with the target. 100% is the same color. The distance is measured in OKLab, a color space built so that equal steps look about equally different, and the percentage falls in a straight line from 100% at no distance to 0% at a distance of 0.5 or more. For example, pink, sky, cream against an answer of sky, pink, cream on Medium scores 89.5%. It is a guide to how near the blend is, not a mark for the colors, so a row can be very close and still have a color wrong; the shapes tell you which.

Are the colors mixed like paint or like light?

Paint and screens work in opposite ways. Pigments absorb light, so mixing them tends to get darker and muddier, which is where paint brown comes from. A screen makes color from light and light adds, so red light and green light together look yellow. This game does neither exactly: it blends the way the eye judges color, by averaging lightness and the two color axes in OKLab. Red and green at half each land on a muted golden brown (#9B7242), not the bright yellow of added light, and blue and yellow land on a soft gray (#8B99A0), not the green that paint gives. Use the color shown beside each row to learn what a pair does here.

Is there an unlimited version of Colorfle, or only one puzzle a day?

Yes. Press Next puzzle for another target at the same level, with no sign-up and no daily limit. Every target is made fresh from a random draw of colors, and the game checks that no other order or choice of colors on the palette blends to nearly the same color, so each puzzle has one clear answer. Switch to Daily if you would rather have the one target everybody gets today at each level.

Is this the original Colorfle?

No. The Dles is an independent site. We wrote this version ourselves, with our own palette, our own way of blending colors, shapes instead of colored borders, and a new target every time you press Next, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the original game’s makers.

How many guesses does the original daily Colorfle give you?

Six, according to the original game’s own page and the game directory PlayPile. This version gives six tries on Medium and Hard and eight on Easy, and you can keep playing after you finish.
